How does a person's position in the social class hierarchy affect their "life chances" today?
The divisions in social classes in Ireland can mean that the person in a lower social class is more likely to miss out on the greater things in life. People in the higher class have a better opportunity in many cases. For example higher class people are more likely to get a better education and healthcare, in comparison to the middle and lower classes. This is a main case in affecting people's life chance today in Ireland. The general meaning of social divisions refers to the ways in which, either as individuals or more commonly as members of social groupings, we often make social divisions among ourselves - black or white and cool or nerd. This means that we are partly responsible for labelling ourselves in which ever social class we think we are involved in. We can partly blame ourselves for this. The main topics in which I will be discussing in this essay will be how poverty, education, social status and location are some of the main causes in social division.
