Zitkala-Sa Land of Red Apples Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Zitkala-Sa was a Siuox Indian who was born in 1876. She was part of the Yankton Band, and she wrote stories and essays about Indian troubles at the time. Zitkala-Sa lived on the reservation, she went to boarding school, and she became a teacher at Carlisle Indian school. Here essays were published in The Atlnatic Monthly. I believe that Zitkala-Sa wrote a coming-of-age story, eventually becoming more comfortable with herself and finding "harmonic wholeness." Zitkala-Sa left home when she was seven years old to go Indian Boarding School. She very much wanted to go to the land of red apples as she says on page 42 when a missionary promises her that she can go to the land of the red apples. When she does this, her mother is not happy because her mother is afraid of what will happen once she leaves the reservation and her tribe. On the reservation, Zitkala-Sa get to run free and play with her friends, make beadwork, and listen to the stories of old people. When she goes to Indian boarding school, they white people there treat her bad and she sees why her mom didn't w......
