The Nurse plays a vital role as Juliet's confidant; this is largely due to the fact that the Nurse has raised Juliet since she was a young child and she breast fed juliet as a baby "thou hadst suck'd wisdom from thy teat." Moreover Shakespeare presents her with no other friend throughout the play; additionally she has a distant relationship with her parents, in the play her mother says to her "I have done with thee" when she goes against her father's will and asks her mother for help. This has probably led to the motherly role that the Nurse plays in Juliet's life. In addition to this Juliet expresses her thoughts and feelings to the Nurse, when Romeo is banished Juliet tells the Nurse that "no words can that woe sound" this allows the audience to know how Juliet feels and thinks to some extent. The Nurse also brings elements of crude humour to the play as she is a not a particularly intelligent individual yet is presented as having quite a vulgar sense of humour; the Nurse describes a bump on Juliet's head as "a bump as big as a cock'rel's stone.&q......
