King Lear successfully achieves universality and relevance through its deep exploration of several timeless concerns. The play provides a strong insight into numerous issues that have remained relevant to modern society, such as the extent to which justice triumphs in society, the importance of having insight into the consequences of our decisions and the dangers of breaking social conventions. Therefore, although King Lear is set in a context which is vastly different to modern society, the universal nature of the issues explored has allowed the play to achieve universality and maintain its relevance. King Lear intimately explores the extent to which justice prevails over wrongdoing in society. The Fool's analogy that "The hedge-sparrow fed the cuckoo so long, that it's had its head bit off by its young" emphasises how Lear's unjust treatment is a perversion of society's natural order and aptly conveys the malevolence of Goneril and Regan's actions. Lear relies on the gods to avenge the injustice which he has experienced, as is reflected by his furious tone in "Let......
