There is a culture in the world where children and good fortune are celebrated. Elders are given respect by youth. Marriage proposals are often discussed over a beer. Children are shown affection by both parents and seen as a necessary part of having a good and fulfilling life. In this culture there is belief in one god as supreme and people are expected to live in harmony with nature and society. The basic beliefs stated coincide with many that are universal worldwide. Upon first inspection of the Maasai people my first reaction was how different their culture was from my own. After further research I found many things such as those listed above that were more similar to my own culture than I originally thought. The location of the Maasai people is important in understanding their culture in a historical and present day context. The origins of the Maasai are not completely known but the general consensus appears to be that the Maasai came from Northern Africa and migrated with their cattle herds to the present day area known as the Great rift valley located in present day Tan......
