Socialism is a political system in which the government has control of nearly all aspects of economy. It is based on collectivist principles, though some would say that it implements them imperfectly. Others define it as a step in a process in which a government moves from being a capitalist organization to being a communist organization. In a socialist society, far less emphasis is placed on competition in the economy, and more attention is paid to the cooperation of all involved. According to Mikhail Bakunin, socialism is justice. However, this justice is not what is usually meant by the word, the kind that is defined by laws sanctioned by this or that religious organization and based on violence, but rather a kind of justice that is found in man himself. The justice Bakunin speaks of is based on that which is found in the human conscience, that to which every man agrees: "equity." Bakunin argues that socialism was born from the want of the people.
