Quality management (QM)is an company wide approach understanding precisely what the customer requires and delivering accurate solutions within the customers budget, on time and also considering the quality of the processes producing the product ensuring minimum loss to society.
It is important to note that 'Quality' is determined by the end user or client not by society in general or implying a prestigious or expensive product. By following two key principles we can characterise quality, that the product is 'fit for purpose' and that it is 'right the first time' to eliminate mistakes and waste. Many would agree that quality is essential to obtain value for money. According to the Construction Industry it is estimated that up to 25% of building cost are due to waste, therefore by minimising these waste factors through good (QM) the end product should be of a higher quality and the profits maximised.
