The world-wide environmental and economic disaster of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico is starting to take effect. On Tuesday April 20, this marked the day of the uncontrolled explosion which caused the sinking of an oil rig off the coast of New Orleans. As a consequence of this, an estimated 800,000 litres of crude oil is leaking into the Gulf of Mexico every single day. As the streak of oil begins to spread, it has been reported to have increased in size, to 16km long, 4.8km wide and 90m thick nearly covering approximately 1500sq km. At present there are 11 people that have been announced dead from the explosion, and as a result it is expected that there is no doubt about the considerable large impact it's that the world will be facing. The consequences of this catastrophic oil spill are unpredictable as it is all very overwhelming, and it's definitely taking its toll on the political system.
