The purpose of this experiment was to determine the pH of a series of pre-prepared acetic acid buffers using an indicator of our choice. We used a spectrophotometer to determine how much light the solution absorbed. Once that was obtained we determined what the concentration of the indicator was in the acid and base form of our solution. We also prepared and scanned a strong acid and base buffer containing the indicator and used it to calculate the absorption coefficients. We calculated the pH of each buffer using the absorption we obtained from scanning of the solutions with various equations that related the absorptions back to indicator concentrations which we used to find H+ concentration.
