Why did William win The Battle of Hastings? Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

The Battle of Hastings took place on October 14th 1066. It was between Harold Godwin and William the Duke of Normandy. The battle was being fought to decide the crown of England, the victor would rule. Each army had approximately 7000 men, Harold had mostly foot soldiers while William had 5000 foot soldiers and 2000 knights on horseback. There were many reasons for William's victory such as religious support, a well-prepared army, favourable weather, more effective weapons and most importantly skilful tactics. Harold made some bad judgments and serious tactical mistakes. But luck played a vital role in William's victory. William's Skill William's skill was an important factor in the defeat of Harold; perhaps even the most important factor. William had always been strong, skilful, ambitious and patient. This experience and knowledge contributed to the long term reason why William won the Battle of Hastings.
