For this essay I will be telling you about how both Luhrmann and Zeffirelli interpret the opening of the tragic love story Romeo and Juliet in two different ways. Both Zeffirelli and Luhrmenn interpret this in two different ways. They do this by using the 'ancient grudge' between the two families of Romeo and Juliet the Capulet's and the Montague's. This 'ancient grudge' is shown in two different ways within both films. But Shakespeare in the original text doesn't tell the reader what the 'grudge' is he leaves it open for the readers own imagination.
Romeo and Juliet opens with a prologue, this prologue is an overview of the play. It tells us about what happens within the play including background information and in this case it tells us about the leave of 'fate' that occurs throughout the play. It tells us about the 'star crossed' lovers within a Shakespearean sonnet. Within the sonnet it tells us about the 'two households' meaning the Capulet's and the Montague's.
