The issue that instigated the court trial with Plaza Beauty Parlour and Big John's Place was a conflict in what tenants of a certain shopping mall could sell service wise in their leased space. Both are tenants in the shopping mall and under Louise Spike's lease clause it stated that, "The landlord...will not lease any other premises in the shopping centre or in any addition built to the present shopping centre to a tenant doing women's hairstyling and/or operating a unisex beauty salon" (Weir, 541). This created an issue for the Plaza Beauty Salon business when Big John's Place started to cut and style women's hair and the landlord did not stop them, though they were subject to under the clause. Decisions and Reasons The court's decision was that the Plaza Beauty Salon had the right to stop Big John's Place from continuing to cut women's hair.
