There was fundamental change in south african between 1990 and 1994. In 1990, the National Party (NP) was in power, and the black people had no rights to vote. The ANC was banned and leaders were in exile or in jail. In 1994, south africa was a democracy with a liberal constitution. The ANC won the first election. It is vital to know the events that led up to the dramatic change between 1990 and 1994 in order to understand how south africa became a democracy. There were many obisticales in the way of negotiations. The ANC had been banned for 30 years. They needed to build up structures in south africa. There was a difference in opionins among the ANC leaders and possible clashes between returning exiles and leaders in South Africa. There was also pressure from the millions who expected change, and were getting impatient. The National Part (NP) had some problems too, they were losing support to the Conservative Party and AWB. The members of the security forces were suspected of right-wing sympathies and some NP leaders wanted to maintain power in alliance(union) with Inkatha. The ......
