One was wealthy and the other was a celebrity who went through tough times, but Robert Frost and Carl Sandberg both became great poets. Robert Frost was brought up in a wealthy family that was very educated. His family experienced many tragedies, however, and this contributed to his great poetry. Carl Sandburg was a different story. He dropped out of school at the end of the 8th grade, because his family was going through tough times during the Great Depression. Being brought up in this poor family contributed to his great poetry. Though Carl Sandburg led a playboy, celebrity life, and Robert Frost lived a quiet, wealthy life, both became great poets of their time.
Robert Frost was a poet formed by tragedies and who persevered and channeled all of his sorrow into his poetry. He was born on March 26, 1874 in San Francisco, where he was raised until he was about 5 years old. He was 11 years old when his father died. His mother took a teaching job in Massachusetts.
