Life of Ralph Waldo Emerson Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Ralph Waldo Emerson was a poet who made his name in history when he was named the founder of the transcendental period of literature. Some of his inspiration came from his childhood, which was tinged with sadness and death. Emerson managed to channel sad events from his life into the poems he created, rather than mope about. Ralph Waldo Emerson's poetry, such as The Amulet and Concord Hymn, were made great poems through Emerson's use of characteristics of the literary period and through the use of events from his personal life. Transcendentalism was known as a literary and philosophical movement created during the 1830s by Ralph Waldo Emerson, with the help of his partner, Henry David Thoreau. Some of the characteristics of the period included, "focusing on solitude, self-reliance, and innocence, and personal identity-- non-conformism" (class notes 1). People tend to associate young children with thoughts of purity and innocence. Emerson embraced the thought in many of his poems and in his book.
