Today I am going to analyse "Coming Home" by Curtis Bennett who is a renowned American poet. He used to be a fighter pilot in the US army and fought in the Vietnam War. Ever since that experience he hated the bloody treacherous battle simply known as war. The other poem I am going to analyse is "The Man He Killed" by an English poet Thomas Hardy. He has also written an anti-war poem. As well as writing poems Thomas Hardy has also written novels about society.
The poem "Coming Home" is about Bennett's personal experience in the war and also his empathy towards the soldiers fighting in Iraq. The poem centre's on what he feels is the lack of respect being shown to the dead soldier's especially in the way they're bodies are shipped home on cargo planes. "Inside the gray, steel womb of cargo space." He feels that the politicians are to blame for sending our countries young to fight a bloody war in an alien land.
