Handmaids tale Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

"It is every man's right to rule supreme and a woman's place is in the home" said Atwood. This also holds true in her novel The Handmaid's Tale. Most novels are written to reflect events that occur in the real world. Atwood projects the outcome of these flashbacks of feminism by portraying a society, Gilead, which is dominated by men. The women of the society are placed on a back burner. In the novel The Handmaid's Tale, and the article The Feminine mystique, both authors portray how women have been treated poorly. Women live under the power of men. Women have to do everything they say when they say it in Friedan's article The Feminine mystique. Likewise in The Handmaid's Tale, we see that Offred feels like her decisions and her will means nothing at all to anyone anymore. "I used to think of my body as an instrument of pleasure, or a means of transportation or an implement of the accomplishment of my will..." (Atwood75) This quote portrays how she feels about her being treated poorly. She realizes her life before had freedom to do what she wante......
