Three Heirs of Rome Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Rome fell in the Early Middle Ages after the death of western Rome's final Emperor, Romulus Augustulus in 476 AD, but this would not be the end. The demise of Rome had been a long time coming and the Roman Empire's breakup resulted in three related, but new societies as far as location, religion, culture, and leadership. It had become clear that no one empire was capable of ruling the entire Mediterranean world. These new societies were the Byzantine Civilization, Islam, and western European and are referred to as the three heirs of Rome. The Byzantine was a 5th century civilization that came from the eastern part of the Roman Empire. The Empire consisted of Greece, the Balkan Peninsula, Asia Minor, Palestine, and Egypt. It's well-known capitol of Constantinople was named after the Roman emperor Constantine and took over six years to build as it held a population of one million. The people spoke Greek as the primary language but the official language of government was Latin.
