Development of Family Relationships in Brown Girl in the Ring Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
Hopkinson's entire plot for Brown Girl in the Ring revolves around an essential family relationship. That is, all exclusive parties involved in the story are in some way connected to one another, in some cases without awareness, either by blood relationships or mutual involvement. The majority of the action in the supernatural, speculative fiction novel is focused on Ti-Jeanne, a young adult who serves as a mother to her infant child, a daughter to Mi-Jeanne, and granddaughter of both Gros-Jeanne and the Posse boss, Rudy. Ti-Jeanne serves as somewhat of an axis around which all the relationships in the story are centered. These connections among characters, more specifically, the manifestations of the relationships among Ti-Jeanne, Mi-Jeanne, and Gros-Jeanne, compel the entirety of the action of the story.
