Overview of Literature on False Memory and Misinformation Effect Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

The psychological and neurological study of memory functions in the brain is a complex one that encompasses several different subset fields of research, all which seek explanations for the phenomena of human memory. However, at often times it appears that these explorations yield more questions than answers- the very definition of the word 'memory' is something still debated by psychologists. And yet, despite disagreements in an immensely complex field, one aspect seems to stand true- the memories we have define us as human beings. One must ask themselves: what would we become if we were to lose our memories? Although this is one highly studied branch in memory research, the concept of identity contingent memories must also give rise to another question- what would happen to our cognitive self-concept if our memories weren't real? This is also an extremely important aspect of the research with many "real world" applications. The facileness of presenting misinformation to subjects in an experimental setting in order to distort their memory has been proven repeatedly, and yet......
