Sixth Crusade: Frederick IIs Expedition to the Holy Land Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
While very little is documented in regards to the Sixth Crusade led by Frederick II of Sicily in the years 1228 to 1229, it nevertheless proved to be one of the most influential events that contributed to the shaping of 13th century politics in both Europe and the Middle East. This paper will raise the argument that although the Sixth crusade was short lived, and not officially granted the status of "Crusade" by many scholars and historians alike, it undoubtedly formed the framework of foreign policy, both in Europe and the Middle East for the remainder of the crusading period. The sixth crusade would also bring about a political change in the very act of Crusading, taking it from a previously church-heavy involvement, and developing it into a more privatized affair.
The political and social framework that had been left behind by the failure of the last church sanctioned Crusade from 1213 to 1218 proved to be volatile at best.
