Jacksonian Democracy Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
The 1820's and 1830's were a time of much change, and conflict. Not only was the country changing, but so were the ideas of the people who lived in it. New ideas were being spread around the nation, and of the many new ideologies, one set became the most popular. Jacksonian Democracy, as it was called, was becoming ever popular in the United States. The Jacksonian Democrats, led by Senator, and later President Andrew Jackson, returned to Jeffersonian ideology of a strict constitution, along with political democracy and individual liberty. The Jacksonians did not live up to their views of themselves. Due to the division over slavery, Indian removal, and the National Bank, the Jacksonians' did not live up to their views of themselves.
Jackson was the first and remains the last president to eliminate the national debt in its entirety. This agreed entirely with his ideas. By eliminating the debt, he shrank the size of the government, and released much of the citizens' dependence on it.
