The society of Europe from 1450-1700 was strictly separated into distinct classes of nobles, royalty, religious leaders and the poor. The poor were mistreated, heavily stereotyped, and wrongfully judged by all others higher than them. The opinions of everyone from government and church officials to the locals had negative views of the poor; either negative by their personal view or negative of how they viewed the Poor's living status. The views were split into many groups, but the 3 major groups that stood out were those that pitied them, those who saw them as a weakness to society and finally those who separated the poor between "idle" and poor that are completely incapable of work.
In documents 1 and 10 shows the pity the church and locals felt for the poor, but the pity they felt was fueled by their own benefit. Documents 1 and 10 show how the Catholic priests would basically sell salvation to those who helped the poor.
