This lenient parenting is directly seen in the character of Connie, an arrogant teenager with a separation in her family among generations. Another character that is essential to the storyline is Arnold friend, who is meant to be the satanic influence of this era. Jealousy is a key component as well, being one of the seven deadly sins.
