Introduction to scenario
31 year old design engineer, James Longley, who lives with his girlfriend, has been feeling very thirsty and tired over the past few weeks. James has been getting up four times nightly to urinate and reports having lost a significant amount of weight recently, to the point of having to tighten the belt of his jeans. He has been exhausted and has boils under his right axilla, on visiting his GP he was diagnosed with diabetes and referred urgently to a diabetic clinic. Once reviewed James was initially started on Novo Rapid 6 units and told to monitor his blood glucose before meals and bed.
Whilst enjoying a night out James experiences his first hypoglycaemic attack after consuming five pints of beer and consuming a small evening meal.
