Dimmesdales Transformation - The Scarlet Letter Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

In the book, The Scarlet Letter, the main character, Hester Prynne, commits adultery and her life after this retold. In this tragedy, Nathaniel Hawthorne shows the transformations of many characters. These characters that go through these drastic changes, affect the plot and result of the story. Out of many characters that over go these life changing transformations, Authur Dimmesdale's transformation is the most significant. This significance is shown during the start, middle and end of this book. In the start of this book, Dimmesdale is represented as different man. All of the townspeople feel that his "eloquence and religious fervor" bring an affirmative vivacity to the town (Hawthorne, 57). This shows that before his downfall, people had a lot of respect for Dimmesdale. Not only did they hold respect, but they also had a lot of hope in Dimmesdale. Dimmesdale's physically "striking aspect" also faded away as time elapsed. This shows that the sin he committed also affected his physical appearance (57).
