Group dynamics, what is that? According to Kurt Lewin (1943), group dynamics is the area of social science that focuses on advancing knowledge about the nature of group life. Membership in groups is universal and cannot be avoided. It has been around for centuries and is something we have been part of from the day we were born. The first group we belonged to is called a family. But family is not the only group people belong to. Other groups are peer groups, professional groups, and business groups. Anytime there are several individuals who come together for a common reason this is called a group. They usually are trying to achieve the same goals, or have the same interests.
Groups are important when it comes to the human race. Through the years we have learnt to become interdependent on one another whether it be to "live, work, and govern." (Johnson & Johnson, 2009) This is most likely the reason humans have survived and still exist today. Our ability to work together in groups has played a role in our development.
