When the New England and Chesapeake colonies were constructed they didn't start out as two different societies, they were somewhat similar in their make-up and beliefs. As time went on however, these two colonial regions began migrated away from each other in their ideals. The Chesapeake colonies soon became an escape for dissenters and religious persons that didn't agree with the Puritan way of life. As time went on, one could clearly see the differences in economic, religious and familial structures in the two colonial regions. By 1700 it was very apparent.
The economies of New England and the Chesapeake region were diverse in their sources of income and labor mainly because of geographic factors. New Englanders were fishing peoples and attained most of their trading revenue from the sea and the lakes. Commerce and subsistence farming were the back bone of the New England economy. This is vastly different from the Chesapeake colonizers because they depended largely on cash crops such as tobacco and were very prone to large scale farming so as to make more money from the crop that......
