Founded in 1967, Xanadu Electronics Corporation, driven by a continuous progress, in only six years proved to be the first company that successfully develop a device to detect and decode tones from a touch keypad at a marketable price. Together with the purchase of a semiconductor fabrication facility, Xanadu could claim at that time to a significant segment of the telecommunication and semiconductor market. In the late 1990s, mistakes started to shaken Xanadu position, and the first big one being the considerable investment they did in the optics area, and then the demand in the market "basically went down by 80% to 90%". In 2000, Xanadu was already going down sharply from the same period in 1999, reporting a third-quarter loss of $3.6 billion on revenues of $3.5 billion, and a prediction that first quarter sales for 2001 could be even worst.
