From Abraham Lincoln's presidency in 1860 to 1877 a revolution was conceived in aspects of political, economical, and social developments. However; due to the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments and upgraded civil rights, white supremacy undid whatever revolution occurred.
The political reforms were due to the radical republicans and mainly consisted of the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments. The carpetbaggers dominated the politics of this time period. This meant that they could pass any law they wanted to. In 1860 with the election of Lincoln a moderate republican the solid south secede from the union and formed the confederacy with Jefferson Davis as their leader. Their main issue was states rights (doc. A.) This inevitably led to their demise. One of the reasons the south secede was because the scalawags felt the U.S. government had no right to regulate whether they had slave and many other things (doc. D.). But the carpetbaggers believed that it was their duties and this led to the passing of the 13th 14th and 15th amendments. They stated that blacks where free and hade all the same ......
