Whole Foods Market Inc. is the world's major natural foods chain. The company operates about 300 stores in 38 United States (US) states, as well as in the United Kingdom (UK) and Canada. The company was founded in Austin, Texas in 1980. The store was an instant success, and a second store was added the next year in suburban Austin. The constant growth that the company had since its initial years of operations helped Whole Foods to acquire its third and fourth stores in Dallas and Houston between 1984 and 1986. The year of 1992 was historical for the company. By that time, Whole Foods had 12 stores operating in several states such as Texas, Louisiana, California, and North Carolina.
