Media Presentation of mental illness Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

The purpose of this assignment is to show one of the ways in which mental illness is presented in today's media and the impact it has on the community. The media presentation that I have chosen is the Bollywood movie titled 'Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara' (I did not kill Gandhi) (Kher & Barua, 2008). The movie tries to communicate how a childhood trauma can be relieved by an intelligent mind suffering from the early stages of Alzheimer's related dementia (Kher & Barua, 2008). The main character in the movie is a retired 62 year old Professor of Literature. He has increasing bouts of memory lapses, which includes forgetting that his wife had died two years ago and that he is no longer teaching at the University. Besides this, the Professor also starts becoming absent-minded, delusional and sometimes violent. The family assumes that he is entering the early stages of Alzheimer's disease (AD). The Professor's hostility is triggered after he sees someone carelessly place a cup on a newspaper which has the photograph of Mr. Gandhi. It emerges that there is much more to his be......
