Garden Hose Practical - Flow Rate Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
Determining the flow rate of the water from a garden hose using the theory of projectile motion and comparing it to the flow rate of the water into a bucket was fairly successful. The flow rate using the range formula was 3.7 m/sec while the flow rate using a bucket was 4 m/sec. From my percentage error of 7.5%, there must have being errors affected the accuracy of the experiment. Air resistance affects all projectiles as it acts in the opposing direction of the flow of the water and therefore slowing the projectile. As I conducted my practical outside, air resistance played a large role in errors in my experiment. Also it was difficult to measure the precise end point because of the thickness of the water spout and the spray as the water rebounded off the edge of the bucket. This meant I had to approximate the end point. The timing of the flow rate involved minor errors also. Due to human error the reaction starting and finishing time varied and to minimize this error I took an average of my three results. A variable difficult to control was the pressure of the water from the hose. ......
