Anxiety is one of the most common feelings of humankind. Individuals may experience some form of anxiety ranging from mild to panic and can be situational. What is anxiety you may ask? It is a feeling of uneasiness that activates the autonomic nervous system in response to a vague, nonspecific threat. There is a fear for survival that one may have that motivates the person to live, however anxiety can be unrealistic. An example of mild would be a mother sending off her children to high school for the fear of high school clichés such as drugs, drinking, and the violence that some schools may carry. Perhaps the mother would be thinking about her the safety of her child. Neural circuitry appears to originate in the subcortical, specifically in the limbic system. The limbic system of the brain plays a role in motivation, emotion, and memory; composed of the thalamus, hypothalamus, amygdala, and hippocampus.
