It had been a long weekend for Deb Kopaska but then again, as a Registered Nurse who works hospice care, most weekends seem long. Being on call and always waiting for the phone to ring would wear on most people, but not on Deb. We were singing Patsy Cline to her; she must have thought there were angels singing. Once we got her all cleaned up and dressed she decided it was her time to go. She went from thinking there were angels singing to her to having real angels sing to her. For me it all started when my Aunt Millie was in hospice several years ago. I felt like it was something that I would be a good fit for. Having someone trust you enough to be there with them and comfort them when they reach the end of life is a gift. My aunt gave that gift to my husband and my patients give that gift to me. I take something away from each person, I learn from them. I gain knowledge, trust and their love.
