"The Battle of New Orleans"
A clean and maintained area cared for by groundskeepers with occasional visitors and battle reenactments is what now remains at the once bloody and violent battleground located in Chalmette, LA. The Battle of New Orleans took place on January 8, 1815 and was the final major battle of the War of 1815. The Chalmette Battlefield and National Cemetery are part of the Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve and became a National Park site in 1939. Being there and knowing of the parks historic significance was truly an overwhelming feeling and it sent my thoughts into a reenactment of their own. Trying to imagine what these brave American and British soldiers possibly went through to achieve permanent control of the large amount of territory America had acquired with the Louisiana Purchase is simply astonishing.
The Battlefield itself is a very vast, flat, wide open field with wet grassy areas about 2-3 acres in size. In 1815, a view of the Mississippi river bordered the site but today there is a massive levee obstructing this beau......
