Why should students be forced into a lower skill level class if not chosen by them? Colleges make future students take a test to find their reading skill level to place them in their according classes. Why should students let a test tell them what reading skill level they are? If the student does not meet the required score for college level reading, they are forced to take a developmental class. Colleges are now considering of eliminating the developmental reading requirement. Proponents argue that eliminating the developmental reading class will help students reach their academic goals quicker. I believe that Northwest Vista College should not eliminate the developmental reading requirement due to the possibility of failure, the money wasted if failed, and the less one on one time given to students who are struggling in the class. Consider the possibility of a student failing a class they are not prepared for, it is almost a definite.
