"Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) refers to smart labels that can communicate with a network," offering a solution to interoperability and portability. (Thede, & Sewell, 2010). RFID, or chips, "provide identification and immediate access to medical history in the event of an emergency" (Merrill, 2009).
