Metamorphosis - Franz Kafka - Passage Analysis Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

The world is hostile and harsh especially for sensitive souls as portrayed in The Metamorphosis by a Czech-born German-Jewish writer, Franz Kafka. It was written in 1915 and explores the ideas of change, isolation, struggles to belong, self-sacrifice and father-son antagonism. The main character, Gregor Samsa, who turns into a beetle symbolises universal human condition. Kafka presents the ideas through the usage of black humour, which revolves around the central situation of the transformation of a man into a beetle. The Metamorphosis is written in a third-person limited narrative, mainly through Gregor, showing his predicament and emotions. This extract is a key passage as it is the part from the novel that Gregor's sister, Grete Samsa, announces that Gregor has to be gotten rid of. In this extract, transformation is greatly explored as Kafka presents a complete change in his sister's personality.
