Metamorphosis - Franz Kafka - Passage Analysis Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
The world is hostile and harsh especially for sensitive souls as portrayed in The Metamorphosis by a Czech-born German-Jewish writer, Franz Kafka. It was written in 1915 and explores the ideas of change, isolation, struggles to belong, self-sacrifice and father-son antagonism. The main character, Gregor Samsa, who turns into a beetle symbolises universal human condition. Kafka presents the ideas through the usage of black humour, which revolves around the central situation of the transformation of a man into a beetle. The Metamorphosis is written in a third-person limited narrative, mainly through Gregor, showing his predicament and emotions.
This extract is a key passage as it is the part from the novel that Gregor's sister, Grete Samsa, announces that Gregor has to be gotten rid of.
