Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief was released during the summer of 2005 and was a great choice for a summer reading books for many kids, teens, and even some adults. Author Rick Riordan brings back ancient greek gods and mythology to modern day literature. Percy Jackson is a true hero.

Percy Jackson doesn't have a clue that he even has anything to do with Olympian gods until he is encountered by a dangerous fury at his boarding school, and doesn't even realize that he's one of Posiden's sons until he unlocks his true water-controlling powers at Camp Half-blood, the secret training camp for kid demi-gods, half human-half god.
