A Time for Justice Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
In this past week of African Americans Studies we watched a video entitled "A Time for Justice." This video covered a multitude of events that spanned from the 1950s to the 1960s. As the video opens with see the headstone of the grave of a young man name Jimmy Lee Johnson. A 26-year old deacon of his church, the youngest at that that was kill trying to prevent his grandfather from being beaten when Klansmen invaded their church meeting.
As the video proceeds we are made aware of the way blacks were forced to live at the time. In the 1950s blacks made an average income of $700 a year, and view the whites as being supreme. During this time in around 1955 a young boy from Chicago, Illinois by the name of Emmitt Till was in Mississippi visiting family. While at a local store supposedly Till whistled at a white woman. Later that night white men came to his house and seized him. They beat him and tied weights to his feet and tried to sink his body in the Mississippi.
