Character Sketch on Dolores Driscoll-Russel Banks Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
Being the first narrator of the novel The Sweet Hereafter, Dolores Driscoll has been a seasoned bus driver for twenty two years. She drives and picks up fourteen children in Sam Dent, which is a very small town in upstate New York near Lake Placid. From Dolores' point of view, these kids are not just random people she drives to school everyday and then back home in the evening. She considers them being her very own children. She is much updated about their past and how their situation at home is like. Every morning, she finds herself falling even more in love with her job. During the whole first chapter, Dolores describes many of the kids she picks up followed by a description of their families. For example, she first picks up the Lamston kids, three quiet children who come from a dysfunctional home. She explains how their parents treat them and how they don't react much with anyone but their family.
Dolores Driscoll is a feisty middle-aged woman who finds herself to be a ''talker''. She says a lot of things she doesn't mean but words will never come out of her mouth in the inten......
