Manet's painting of Olympia and the paintings of Venus, done by various artists in very different time periods, have a lot in common with each other. Despite there being a time difference it actually helps to make it more comparable, because there being a time difference it means that Manet could have been influenced by the paintings of Venus. Although there are many things in common if you look carefully enough and not just have a glance at the paintings then you will see that there is more of a difference between the paintings than there are common ideas.
In both pictures the subject matter is in the forefront, where it can be seen. Both the subject matter are naked women but the way they are portrayed is completely different. The pictures of Venus are showing the goddess Aphrodite, who is the goddess of beauty and love. This is why in the pictures she is very flowing and blends into her background.
