Outline the contributions of the Hebrew and Greek societies to the development of a western worldview. Western civilization has been greatly influenced by many ideas. Two peoples in particular the Hebrews and Greeks contributed greatly to the development of a western worldview. The Hebrews were a Semitic people from the Near East while the Greeks were an Indo-European people who lived at the southern edge of Europe. Important formative elements of the Western worldview, those of monotheism and the rational observation of the natural world, were bequeathed to us by the Hebrews and Greeks respectively. The religious views of the Hebrews contributed to the roots of Christianity. The Hebrews adhered to the concept of one omnipotent god that is to say that they were monotheistic. They viewed God as being perfect and merciful. God is behind all creation and man must worship Him. They believed that a personal relationship with God was possible.
