Paradox lost in Macbeth Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

The sentence "this statement is false" is an example of a paradox. It is a paradox because a statement cannot be true and false at the same time. This statement contradicts itself which makes it a paradox. This particular kind of paradox is a contradiction in the sentence itself. The sentence just does not come together logically. Another example of this kind of paradox would be Pinocchio saying "my nose will grow now". As we all know, whenever Pinocchio lies his nose grows, but the sentence he said was not necessarily a lie, which makes the sentence a paradox. These examples of paradoxes are just simple ones that contradict and are confusing. They are logically incorrect and interesting to think about. However, there are other paradoxes, found in literature, which can help us acquire further insights on texts, and 'shed light' on texts. In the play by William Shakespeare, Macbeth, many paradoxes - some like the examples above and some different - help do this to the play.
