How many of us are willing to donate an organ to another person? There are many mixed answers to that question depending on how altruistic one can be. Organs such as kidneys are in sparse supply as few donate and the requirements to donate are somewhat complex. The kidney serves as a vital organ although not nearly as vital as the liver. Sally Satel is a psychiatrist and a lecturer at the Yale University School of Medicine. She makes the observation that many people are in need of kidneys and includes statistics supporting her claims. In her piece titled "Death's Waiting List," Satel suggests the use of compensation for organ which goes against many values and morals. The waiting list for kidney donation is long and grueling as Satel points out the pros and cons of the kidney donations. The writer uses examples from personal experiences to begin the essay.
