In this work of history by Ned Sublette, we are introduced to many groups of people which in turn explain why New Orleans became so diverse. He primarily focused on 3 main groups with the greatest influence: the French, the Spanish, and the Africans-freed and the slaved. Even though they were many other groups that came to New Orleans, these three groups of people had the greatest impact. He focused on each group and the contribution they made to New Orleans. With many ongoing activities in the "old" world and "new" world, somehow they all had an effect in the development of New Orleans. His main idea was how each group entered New Orleans and left their footprints in the process. He managed to tell everyone's story specifically and at the end tied it all together in New Orleans.
