TOMS was founded by a young gentleman named Blake Mycoskie. While visiting children in Argentina, he realized that the children did not own a pair of shoes. It was at that moment when he decided something had to been done. Therefore, in 2006 Mycoskie developed an organization called TOMS. He then came up with the idea of making shoes and selling them. For every shoe that was sold a pair would be given to a child in need. TOMS not only makes shoes, they also make sunglasses. Every time a pair of sunglasses is sold a percentage of the sale goes towards helping a child or an adult get the best eye care that they may need.
University of Louisiana in Monroe TOMS is a branch off from the original organization. The president of TOMS campus branch is Andrea Pinky Fontenot. The vice president is Christy Demitro. They both work together, along with the team members, to help spread the word about TOMS around campus and around the community.
