Things have certainly changed since 1983, when my mother was 16 years of age. However, after conducting an interview and using my own personal reflection I have found that some aspects and stereotypes have remained the same since that time. Interviewing my mother on the societal and cultural concepts of power, authority, gender, technology and cultural diversity enabled me to come to these conclusions.
Power and authority within my mothers' micro world was dominated equally by her mother and father. She remembers her parents being fairly strict with her siblings and herself and believes that this contributed to make the woman, wife, sister and mother that she is today, in 2012. Similarly, I believe, like my mother's parents, power and authority is shared equally between themselves. This is evident when I ask my parents for something or to go somewhere, it is discussed and finalised between each other.
