Generally, the movie portrays the life of a Buddhist monk on his quest to find his real purpose in life as he struggles between satisfying his numerous desires and conquering just one. The movie describes what Buddhism is by showing its practices and by also showing what it is not. At the beginning of the movie, it showed the most obvious practice of Buddhism - they practice the precept of ahimsa or non-violence. This was portrayed when they saw a goat being hit by a rock by a bird; they immediately prayed and cried hoping for the goat to come back to life. At an early age of five, children are sent to the monastery to study Buddhism and to eventually attain Nirvana or the enlightenment. Tashi, the monk, experienced the same way for twenty years in the monastery. He did not experience a normal childhood like those who lived with their parents because he was not exposed to the real world. He believed in something that he was told to believe and not to believe what he discovered himself. Every Buddhist monks goes through a lengthy committed meditation to achieve Nirvana.
